QUICSEAL 608 PLASTERMIX (Type I) is a specially formulated acrylic latex admixture to be mixed with cement and sand to improve the quality of screeds and renders.
QUICSEAL 608 improves the cohesion and adhesion strength of screeds and renders. Once cured, the screeds and renders are resistant to water, mild chemical and weathering effects.
Uses
Substrate Preparation
The substrates must be clean and sound, free of dust and loose particles. All loose particles, oil, grease, paint, wax or any substance that may inhibit adhesion must be removed.
Mould release agents or curing compound which are not suitable for subsequent finishes must also be removed from substrate surfaces by using wire brush, scabbler, or other means.
Dampen the substrate but without ponding water before screeding or rendering. For very porous and powdery surfaces (e.g. lightweight blocks or prefabricated panels etc.), treat the substrate with QUICSEAL 113 PRIMER C before screeding or rendering.
Mixing
Stir QUICSEAL 608 and pour into a clean container. Add the appropriate quantity of cement and sand and mix slowly until a homogeneous consistency.
Applications
Adhesive Slurries
For screeding or rendering onto waterproofing membranes, smooth concrete or precast concrete surfaces, adhesive slurry coat should be applied to improve the adhesion of the screeds and renders to the substrate.
For adhesive slurries, the recommended mixing ratio is as follow:
QUICSEAL 608 1 part by weight
Cement 1.5 parts by weight
Key Coats (Splash or Spatter Coats)
For rendering onto smooth concrete or precast surfaces, a key coat should be formed prior to screeding or rendering.
The recommended mixing ratio for key coat is:
QUICSEAL 608 1 part by weight
Cement 1.5 parts by weight
Sand 1.5 parts by weight
Screeds and Renders
QUICSEAL 608 is mixed into cement-sand mortars to improve the cohesion and adhesion strength as well as the quality of screeds and renders.
The recommended mixing ratio for screeds and renders:
Less than 10mm thickness:
QUICSEAL 608 1 part by weight
QUICSEAL 602 THIN-SET POWDER 4 ~ 6 parts by weight
More than 10mm thickness:
QUICSEAL 608 1 part by weight
Water 1 part by weight
Cement 4 parts by weight
Sand 12 parts by weight
Render coats should not exceed more than 15mm thickness per application. The second coat should be applied only when the first coat has sufficiently hardened.
Patching Mortars
Use QUICSEAL 608 to fortify cement-sand mortars for general repair and patching. The recommended mixing ratio for patching mortars is:
QUICSEAL 608 1 part by weight
Cement 2 parts by weight
Sand 4 parts by weight
Before applying the patching mortar, it is recommended to apply an adhesive slurry coat to improve the adhesion of the mortar to the substrate
Coverage
Approx. 0.2 ~ 0.3 kg/m2 of QUICSEAL 608 is required for adhesive slurries and key coats. Approx. 0.5 ~ 1 kg/m2 of QUICSEAL 608 is required for screeds and renders for every 10mm thickness.
The quantity of QUICSEAL 608 should be adjusted to workability depending on the application requirement.
Cleaning
All tools and hands may be cleaned with abundant water before the mortar sets. After setting, cleaning becomes very difficult but can usually be helped by mechanical means.
Health & Safety
QUICSEAL 608 is non-toxic and non-flammable. Any splashes to the skin or eyes should be washed off with clean water. In the event of prolonged irritation, seek medical advice. QUICSEAL 608 is slightly alkaline and skin contact should be avoided. Gloves and goggles should be worn.
Packaging
QUICSEAL 608 is supplied in 5, 20 and 200 kg drums.
Storage
12 months in a cool and ventilated place in the original packaging.
